Brazil International Tourism Plan - Goals and targets until 2020
The Brazilian ministry of tourism has developed a new international tourism plan. The plan labeled "Plano Aquarela 2020" sets the new goals Brazil intends to achieve until 2020 with regards to international tourism. With the FIFA World Cup coming up in 2014 and the Olypmic games in 2016, Brazil is set to attract an ever increasing foreign interest.
The new Brazilian international tourism plan's main goals to achieve until 2020 are:
- Increase the number of foreign tourists in Brazil by 113% compared to 2010. The numbers of foreign tourist arrivals in Brazil the year of 2009 was in total 6 483 944, and the new Brazilian international tourism plan has a target to attract 11,1 million foreign tourist arrivals by the year 2020.
- A 304% increase in the revenue generated by international tourism spending in Brazil in 2020 compared to the levels achieved in 2010. The goal is to achieve total revenue of 17,6 billions US$ from foreign tourism in Brazil.
- Increase the number of foreign tourist arrivals in Brazil by 500 000 the year that the 2014 FIFA World Cup will take place in Brazil. In 2016 when Brazil will host the Olympic games, the goal is to increase foreign tourist by 15% compared to the year before.
- Maintain a sustainable rate of growth in international tourist arrivals at the least 1% above the average growth in foreign tourism in South America.
- Consolidate Brazil as the leading country in South America with regards to international tourism, with a goal of a 27% market share of the South American international tourist arrivals.
The tourism industry in Brazil will definitely see strong and solid growth numbers for the next decade, and it is not only the international tourism that is growing in Brazil. For the year of 2009, the domestic tourism market in Brazil reached a new record level of 56 million domestic flight departures.
